Hindu Indian Prince Kumeru (កុមេរុ)
The 1st century ad
Prince Kumeru was in a Brahman Indian outfit with his crew members about 400 men were in exile
travelling by a big ship from the south of India to a nowhere in the Ocean.
According to one of the
beautiful Khmer fairy tales stories Preah Thong & Neang Neak (Prince Kumeru
& Nagi Princess);
Prince Kumeru was a Hindu
Great Warrior, an excellent skill in Archery, a Great Sailor and became a Great
Protector of his Indrapat Kingdom at the age of 16 years old but unfortunately
Prince was forced to leave his native Kingdom by his own father because of
miscommunication leading to misunderstanding between father and son. Prince
Kumeru always protected the women rights from the men abusing because in that
time women in India had not much freedom and his protection for the women
rights was against his father will.
The big misunderstanding
one was when his youngest brother was crowned to become King by his father,
without telling him so Prince Kumeru became upset pretending not to be aware of
it and not attending to his brother ceremony so his father was very furious and
ordered him to be killed but his four brothers, his mother and ministers
begging the King father to forgive him not to kill him and reminded the King
that Prince had fought with the enemy invasion and brought peace to Kingdom many
times and requested the King to let him go in exile, so the King father agreed. Due
to the Prince Kumeru popularity and courage for protecting the Kingdom, also
his handsome and kindness, there were so many people wanted to follow the
Prince but the King father had limited only about 400 men including the sage
whom was the Prince Kumeru’s teacher and the teacher's family allowing to
follow the Prince, but Prince can select those 400 men as he wished. Prince
selected some soldiers from his army and some civilian men who had the working
skill.
Before Prince Kumeru and
his crew step down onboard the big ship for sailing, the King father ordered
all his crew members to have a short haircut except Prince, the teacher and the
teacher’s family. The King told them that from now on you all are no longer to this
Kingdom citizen and you don’t have a country, no home, no family, no religion.
The ship was loaded a few horses, chickens, ducks, tools, waters and food supplies.
The Prince said goodbye to his father, his mothers, his brothers, his ministers
and those who wanted to follow him. There was a big emotional, people gathering
around Prince with tears, hugging him, kissing him, did not want him to go. The time Prince was leaving his Kingdom, he was only 25 years old.
At sunset, Prince was standing onboard of the ship very sad but shed no
tears looking at his Kingdom and his people for a long last time before
commanding his crew to sail the ship out towards east where the ship was
pushed easily by winds and currents.
